Craftsil molds

Postby Del on Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:16 pm

Hi . I thought I had posted this but it seems to have dropped off the planet so here I go again.
I have used the Craftsil silicone to make my mold for bangles and at first they all came out of the mold really well and were shiny with minimal flaws but lately the surface is quite dull and frosty and not smooth. I know that over time the molds would deteriorate but is there anything I can do to bring it back to life. I have washed them with warm water and detergent and sprayed a release mold/conditioner spray onto them.

Once a silicone mould starts to deteriorate that is the end of it. There are silicones that can resist resins more successfully than the general purpose silicones such as Craftil but are more expensive. They are worthwhile using for production casting however. We can sometimes get more life out of a mould by spraying with J Wax aerosol, however this is fairly expensive too. Stan
