How to use latex thickening liquid

Postby mel on Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:40 am

Hi all,
If anyone could give me advice on how to use latex thickener that would be great...
Normally when Im making my mould , I would brush 30+ coats of latex, but this can take up time, and alot of patience,
Does the thickening liquid cut the time in half ?
what's the procedure for the latex thickening liquid??? cheers....

Hi,
I usually remmend that you brush on the first two or three coats of unthickened latex onto the model to ensure that all detail is picked up then add the Latex Thickener or use pre-thickened Latex #72 for the final coats. Let each dry before applying the next coat. The 30 coats you are applying seems a lot. For samller moulds up to 150mm 8-10 coats should be sufficicient. Most larger concrete moulds would require 20 coats. I would think that a mould with 30 thickened coats fully applied would be hard to remove from the cast item. Have fun Stan Alderson
