mould making help

Postby ponco on Sat Jul 25, 2009 4:49 am

hi all. i'm looking to made a rubber mold of a fairly large clay sculpture and am confused about what materials to use, how to divide the mould and how to divide the mother mould. i i'd appreciate any advice. i can send pics but am having trouble uploading them to the forum. thanks
a picture has been attached that gives an idea of the pose as i am not able to upload a picture of the actual sculpture. the only difference between the pic and the sculpture are that the arms are out straighter over her head. i can send pics to anyone willing to help. thanks again

re figure mould

Postby aldaxmoulds on Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:56 am

Although it is a bit diificult to visualise without having the model in front of you it is quite possible that this mould could be made in two parts by embedding the figure in clay up to half the arms, legs and body as it looks as if you would get clean separation of the two parts without undercuts. There is an explanation of doing a two part silicone mould on Tech Tips www.aldax.com.au that should help you although the mould could be made of either latex, silicone or polyurethane rubber.
