what sort of resin

Postby kathrynn on Mon Aug 25, 2008 9:42 am

Hello and thankyou for putting this forum together. I want to make some nresin jewellery . I will be making some moulds from an original sculpture and I wanted the piece to be like tinted amber glass. I am hoping to get something not as smelly as the resin I purchased from the local craft store and I found that takes days to set. I just purchased the silicon putty from Aldax on Ebay for my moulds. Hope I made sense. Cheers

Hi Kathryn,
Have a look at our web site in the 25th news section on the front page for a picture of the knight. You will find a video that should help you with your figurine work. We are using CraftSil 750 for the silicone mould and CraftCast as the resin. This resin is opaque however you could use our Crystal Cast resin which is clear, water white and can be dyed with an amber transparent dye we have to simulate natural resin for your jewellery. See further articles in the Tech Tips section on jewellery mould making that may also be of help. All the best Stan Alderson www.aldax.com.au

hello again. I saw the video and it was very helpful ..To start with I have decided to work with the craftcast and experiment with things like the kangaroo magnet demo . I also purchased some poly pig . How long to I have to leave the craftcast before I apply the polypig? Thanks again I love working with the silicon putty and I keep looking for new things to make moulds from
Cheers Kathrynn

resin jewellery dyes

Postby aldaxmoulds on Wed Sep 03, 2008 2:14 pm

Hi Kathryn,
The smelly resin is polyester clear casting resin and the non smelly variety is an epoxy resin callled CrystalCast resin which you can find at www.aldax.com.au It can be coloured with any of the opaque and transparent dyes but in addition we have an dye we bring in from the US called amber to replicate the colour of natural Baltic jewellery resin. It is not listed but is available on request for $15.50 1floz. Hope our Tech Tips help. All the best Stan Alderson
